  • When the thesis work begins? The thesis work process begins when you start it. Thesis is independent work, but you are justified to get supervising and support during the project. 6 months period begins when you agree with your supervisor about starting your thesis work.
  • What is DPC? DPC is an abbreviation for Degree Programme Committee, who has a meeting approximately 7 times a year. DPC meeting dates are listed in Deadlines. DPC approves thesis topic applications and evaluates the finished theses. Note, that the topic and thesis work of the same student cannot be accepted in the same DPC meeting and the thesis topic must be valid when the thesis is being evaluated. 
  • Who is a supervisor:  The supervisor is usually one of the professors, university lecturers, or senior university lecturers of the School of Science.  The supervisor can also act as an advisor. After the student has returned their thesis for approval, their supervisor evaluates the thesis, writes an official statement and suggests a grade for the Degree Programme Committee. It's students responsibility to find a supervisor. Look for the supervisor from 2.1. Finding a supervisor
  • Who is an advisor:  The advisor is usually from an organization for which the thesis is written and holds at least a master’s degree. The advisor is an expert in the field of the thesis, and they can give advice on the content and writing of a thesis. Having an advisor is mandatory. The supervisor can also be an advisor. The duties of the advisor are agreed on by the student, supervisor and advisor. 
  • When I can submit the request for graduation? If you have completed all other required studies for your master’s degree and they are registered in Sisu except the thesis and maturity test, you can submit your thesis for evaluation  and request for graduation and at the same time.
  • What will be my graduation date? The deadline for submitting the request for graduation in Sisu will also be the date of graduation date printed on the degree certificate.
  • How long it will take that my thesis will be published in AaltoDoc? Thesis will be published in AaltoDoc within about three weeks after the thesis has been accepted and sent from eAge to be archived in AaltoDoc. Read more about publicity and publication of a master's thesis.
