First, the Rules of Engagement:

1.  You must communicate with each other early and often.

2. As you likely know, teamwork involves compromise and understanding.  Compromise in terms of decision-making.  Understanding in terms of how people process thoughts and ideas and, as I know from your Personal Writing Targets, differences in writing habits and work habits.  Be generous but hold each other accountable. Conflict, managed thoughtfully, can be productive.

3. Ideally, you will be able to move forward with the same general issues that led to your team assignments. In each team, the majority of you landed on the same issue.   I strongly discourage dramatic shifts in focus at this point.  If your team wants to make a dramatic shift in issue/topic, we will need to meet and decide together.

4.  When we return to the individual assignments (editorial and abstract), it's fine for you to return to the specific area that you were first interested in for the editorial-- or even to a new interest that your research with the team uncovered. The abstract should reflect the contents of the research report.

5.  Regardless of how cohesive your team ideas currently are, you'll likely need to refine your thesis statement.  And it absolutely needs an argumentative edge and a sharp focus.

6.  Concerns?  Let me know right away.  We'll figure it out!
