Study the given materials. Also, search for and study one additional research paper (conference or journal) on user research within the last 5 years, and explain how it relates to the other materials. Based on all the articles, write an essay in your own words presenting the basic concepts and the methods, while analyzing the applicability, and pros and cons of the methods. Going through the articles one by one makes a poor essay, so think of a good way to structure your essay. One possibility is to consider the feasibility of the methods in relation to your own previous projects.

The essay should be 7 - 11 pages including the cover page and references using the Taylor&Francis HCI Commentary template. See Style Guidelines for HCI for further reference. May use provided Word template v2 as an example. LaTeX people, you may use this T&F one Overleaf LateX template.

There are no fixed grading limits for length, but clearly too short or long essays should lose points in Contents, Structure and/or Language and presentation. I would suggest additionally lowering the score one extra point for each missing page below 7 (C’mon people, it really cannot be shorter than 5-6 pages of text+cover+references), and each extra page over 12 (let us allow one extra page without a debate) if there is no plausible reason for the added length (such as max 2 pages of appendices).

You are not allowed to submit any text or images that are e.g. generated by tools like ChatGPT or other generative AI tools.

Final version of the essay is returned in Essay Peer-Review and Turnitin Final Essay the deadline is midnight on Friday, 27 September, 11:59 PM. Submissions are kept open for 12 hours after the deadline where every hour late is equal to -1/4 point essay grade penalty, with the maximum of -3 points after 12 hours. After the hard deadline has passed on Saturday mid-day essays can no longer be accepted into the system.

Note: The cover page will only have the course code and the title of your essay. No names or student numbers!

Return your ANONYMOUS essay to MyCourses for peer-reviewing. The cover page, title, file name, or contents must not reveal your identity so the peer-review will remain double-blind.
