Dear Master School Community,

We really hope you are all doing well!

We have been following the situation with Coronavirus carefully, including new cases in numerous countries, and management measures being introduced by governments, health organisations, medical professionals and organisations across the world. The situation has now intensified in Europe in the countries we work and study.

All indications suggest that early intervention and proactive isolation is effective at slowing the spread and the impact of the virus, and its impact on local health systems to ensure that resources can be focused on taking care of those who experience life-threatening complications or are at grave risk.

The current situation is concerning for a number of reasons - public health above all, but also general wellbeing, access to basic resources and social stability as people become more concerned about self-isolation, as well as the associated economic impacts.

After careful consideration, we have decided to adopt the following preventive measures:

Mobility Requirements

If you are currently on Mobility, please urgently follow your own country government and university travel policy. Please contact ASAP your local university coordinator to discuss about your personal situation. If you must end your mobility early, only when you have time i.e. when you get home, can you please complete the attached mobility change form (Annex 8. COVID-10 Mobility Amendment) with the date that your mobility ended. Pay attention to keeping records of unplanned expenses should you need to make a claim on your travel insurance later.

 No student will be penalised for stopping their mobility early due to the virus. In all cases, your health and security are paramount.

If you planned a mobility in the coming months, please follow the bellowed instructions:

  1. It is first of all important to keep you safe so please follow the guidance provided by your own Country Government and follow the basic protective measures provided by World Health Organization: https://www.who.int/emergencies/diseases/novel-coronavirus-2019/advice-for-public;
  2. Please follow you own university recommendations and guidelines and contact ASAP your local university coordinator to discuss about your personal situation;
  3. If you cannot attend your planned mobility, please document this by filling out and sending us the attached document (Annex 8. COVID-19 Mobility Amendment). At this moment, due to the uncertain situation we are not able to provide you any further information. In the future, we will see what we could do within this Label requirement and we will inform you about any decision on that.

Spark Events

To face the current situation we are now introducing a series of Official Spark! Webinars that will be organised in the near future.

In the meanwhile, you can also watch previously recorded Spark! online. If you want it to count towards the Master School Spark requirement, you need to validate it by submitting the “Annex 1. Spark! Report. (to MyCourses assignment)

Please remember that, at least 2 of the 5 events you attend must be official Spark events organised by EIT Climate-KIC or partner universities. Online attendance to a Spark’ webinar will count as an official Spark.

The Journey Summer School

While we hope the Journey summer school can go ahead, the travel situation is evolving rapidly. The Journey team will be in touch with 2020 participants directly when they know what is and isn’t possible.

We will continue to monitor the situation and will update you.

Kind Regards,

Master School Team
