At Aalto University the safety of our students and staff is our priority as we plan the university operations. In the coronavirus situation, tutor’s responsibilities have the following exceptions:

  • Tutor does not have to pick-up the tutored student from airport. International students have been informed that they are responsible for checking and following the travel restrictions and quarantine guidelines when travelling from their home country to Finland. Arrival instructions from the airport are available for the international student at https://into.aalto.fi/display/enopisk/Arrival+and+settling+in
  • Tutor does not have to pick-up the keys for the tutored student and hand them over especially if the tutored student is under quarantine.
  • Tutor is encouraged to advise the tutored students who are under quarantine on how they can order food online.
  • Tutor does not have to hold physical meetings for tutored students on campus or elsewhere during orientation week or if tutored students are under quarantine.
  • If the tutor meets tutored students physically during the orientation week or at other time on campus, the tutor should check the regulations and limitations in using campus facilities. Potential physical gatherings are recommended to be held outside or in large spaces  following safety instructions. If any physical gatherings are held, they should not be mandatory for participants, and equivalent sessions should be held online for those students who are not in Finland or who are under quarantine.
  • The tutor is encouraged to hold meeting(s) with his/her tutored students online on Zoom or other platform. It is possible that the tutor has to tutor both students who are in Finland and students who start their studies remotely from their home countries. International students can arrive to Finland throughout the spring term, depending for example on when a non-EU student gets residence permit card or when travel restrictions are eased.
  • In spring term 2021, all new students can and are encouraged to enroll as attending and pay AYY membership fee online. Queuing on campus is to be avoided. Large groups should not visit AYY or HSL service points, instead international students should be recommended to visit AYY and HSL service points independently alone or in small groups. Orientation week information sessions are held mainly online, most of them will be available later as recordings, and orientation week does not require physical attendance. Incoming students will be informed about Orientation schedule.
  • For your information: Aalto expects anyone coming from any country to stay off campus for two weeks, not just from countries on the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) travel restriction list.
  • Please remember: safety distances, washing hands, use of mask recommended.
