Step 1.1 In the beginning, it is good to familiarize
yourself with the MSc Thesis Guidelines.
These will give you an overview from the whole process and different steps.
Step 1.2 After you have gone through the guidelines, you should get a
position / topic for the thesis.
- Thesis topics / positions currently offered in Aalto are listed in “topic bank” of programme
- For your own topic, think about the topic you would be interested in and contact relevant professor or staff member to discuss if Aalto would have a similar or suitable position considering your interests.
- To find a topic
- Be active and contact companies about thesis topics and positions. Summer jobs and excursions good places to discuss
- Join and follow student organization mailing lists and posts (e.g. KIK or LRK)
- If you get positions out side
- It is good to see these instructions and fill the template
Step 1.3 After you have found a topic / position, discuss about this with the supervisor and advisor to get approval.
You can apply for approval either by filling in the topic agreement template (docx) or by email from supervisor. The supervisor should be a professor from Aalto. The advisor should hold a master's degree.
If you have an actual meeting with the supervisor and advisor, this can act as a kick-off meeting also (see Step 2.1)
Step 1.4 Submit your application for the thesis topic in the eAge system
- If you haven't accept your personal study plan (PSP) before, you need to attached it also to the application.
- The submission deadlines can be found here under timetable.
- You have to have 60 credits before you can apply
- After applroval, the topic is valid for 1 year
- Approval of the topic and thesis cannot be applied at the same time
