Find out about ancient ways of measuring time, and how calendars are constructed based on the cycles of the Sun and the Moon -and sometimes the stars.

• Ancient devices for measuring time: tally sticks, gnomon (part of a sundial that can be used alone without the actual "dial"), merkhet, water clocks.

• Definition of a month (particularly the first part of the article, until "Months in various calendars", you can then skip the rest if you wish). You may already know these from the previous lecture.
