Learning Outcomes (valid 01.08.2018-31.07.2020): 

The emphasis of the course is in sketching and drawing moving objects. You will develop skills in quick sketching and learn to express the essential narrative elements in your drawing.

Content (valid 01.08.2018-31.07.2020): 

Drawing from life in theater- and dance rehearsals. Observing the performance situations and relation between drawing and narration. How to express drama in a drawing? Is it possible to represent motion by drawing?

Details on the course content (applies in this implementation): 

 We will be drawing  each day of the course in theatre rehearsals of 

Agatha Christie´s "Murder of Orient Express" (Idän pikajunan arvoitus) in 

Suomenlinna in Ryhmäteatteri . It would be great if you could  get the 

possibility to borrow from the library that book in forehand and  get 

familiar with the story. I will later on also scan some parts of the book 

here. During the course we will practice different approach to draw 

moving images in theatre context.

Exercises, personal guidance, group discussions and critiques

Elaboration of the evaluation criteria and methods, and acquainting students with the evaluation (applies in this implementation): 

The evaluation of this course will be consisted most of all from the motivation approved during the whole course. That is the most valuable matter when I give the grades after the course. For sure I look carefully through all the drawings and analyse all the different aspects of them when I have the verbal individual critics  with each student. For me as teacher the attitude of the student towards the learning processes and the actual practice is even more important than how sovereign individual drawings 

Workload (valid 01.08.2018-31.07.2020): 

40 h contact teaching, 14 h independent work.

Materials will be announced in the beginning of the course.

Details on the course materials (applies in this implementation): 

 Materials needed for the course:

-A 4 drawing block

-soft drawing pencils or graphite  (around 4 B-8 B)

-bottle of chinese, japanese or indian ink

-a brush (pointed and around number 10-14)

-ruokokynä ="reedpen" if possible

-your personal pencil case with your favorite pens and drawing chalks or crayons. 

-empty mug, or glass jar

-little bit of tissue paper, hand towels, if possible

Further Information (valid 01.08.2018-31.07.2020): 

Minimum amount of participants is 8 students.
Two places are reserved for exchange students.
The language of instruction is English / Finnish.

Details on the schedule (applies in this implementation): 

We will draw in Ryhmäteatteri summer theatre rehearsals in Suomenlinna.

We will make drawing excursions daily to Suomenlinna  between 27-5 - 

31-5.

First meeting monday 27th of May at 10.10 in Suomenlinna ferry main quay

in Kauppatori. After that will take the ferry to Suomenlinna at 10.20 am.
