LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • Students will understand the relationship of the arts to the representation or the means by which images produce meaning in a given context.
  • Students develop further competence in artistic techniques and technologies.
  • Students learn to conceptualize and plan for more complex creative work.
  • Students understand some of the diverse ways that the art, design, media, and architecture are made and used.

CONTENT, ASSESSMENT AND WORKLOAD

Content

    The central focus in Studio B is to increase the student's understanding of their own artistic actions and the consequences of their choices. The keyword of the course is "You". The course emphasizes discussion and interaction with peers, as well as making and thinking about art. Personal artistic viewpoints and conceptual ways of thinking are deepened, through longer assignments that emphasize choices informed by an awareness of the communicative role of art.

Assessment Methods and Criteria

  • valid for whole curriculum period:

    Exercises on perception and experience, that include critical reflection on both. Assignments given by the teacher. Supervised task-based working and an independent assignment. Critiques, and discussions. Exercises using varying techniques (individual and group working). Assessment criteria. Student's personal development, active participation in class, and the ability to absorb and benefit from the instruction.

    •The course evaluation follows grading scale 0-5.
    •Course completion requires at least 80% attendance and completion of assigned work given by the teachers by a specific deadline.
    •The evaluation of each course section is based on personal progress, active participation in group work and common assignments and active participation in common critiques and discussions.
    •Students are requested to notify the teacher of their own group (or if the teacher is unavailable, the teacher-in-charge) via e-mail,  of any absence due to illness or another serious reason.
    •If you are sick, follow the instructions in MyCourses for making the assignment of the actual day and submitting it in MyCourses.

Workload

    48 h contact teaching: According to daily schedule in MyCourses, includes hands on working, instructions, discussions, critiques.

    33 h independent work: Preparations and implementation of independent assignment, instructed in MyCourses. Preparations include going through online texts and videos. Possible preparations also for weekly assignments.
