  • Identify the possibilities offered by the various workshops, labs, and studio facilities in Aalto ARTS and Aalto Studios.
  • Recognize the safety and health issues associated with working in these facilities.
  • Use the workshops and studios throughout their studies.

CONTENT, ASSESSMENT AND WORKLOAD

Content

    Safety and usage training for the workshops and studios in Väre and Aalto Studios. The facilities and tools covered in the course include, but are not limited to:

    • Laser cutter
    • 3D printers
    • Waterjet cutter
    • Printlab
    • Wood workshop
    • Metal Workshop

    The course also covers basic introduction to CAD software for creating design files and drawings for the various machines.

    This course has varying content for each implementation of the course and can be taken several times. See the course syllabus for a detailed list of workshops and studios covered in each run of the course.

    This course introduces the students to the workshops at Aalto Studios (Otakaari 7).

    Workshops for this course implementation:

    • Set Design Workshop
    • Costume Design Workshop

    During this course students get to:

    • know the workshop space, machines, tools and working methods.
    • learn the rules of the workshop and how to use the machines.
    • learn to work safely and efficiently. 
    • make familiar oneself with wood and metalwork and textile basics.

    • Lectures and assignments on CAD software basics
    • Safety and usage training in the ARTS Infra or Aalto Studios workshops
