Welcome to Biolab III laboratory course!

The course comprises of two independent projects. In both projects the participants will mainly work in pairs. In addition, there will be reporting, assignments and presentations/discussions during the course. As we have a capacity limit in the teaching laboratory we have to divide the class into two working groups (preliminary scheduling will appear on this page before 28.2.). This is why you will not be present in the lab in all of the times previously mentioned in Sisu / MyCourses. You will work in pairs and small groups, grouping will open on week 8 and it will be announced via MyCourses e-mail.

In the first project you will use baker's yeast for expression of a therapeutic protein. You will create and culture genetically modified yeast strains, collect the analysis material and analyze the products. The work in this project will be done according to protocols and predefined schedule.

In the second project, you will use BioBricks to build expression constructs in E. coli. The project will be planned and conducted more freely in pairs within the given result requirements and time frames.

The lab work will take place in Kemistintie 1, laboratory space C305.

Please be aware that during corona times we must follow the Aalto level restrictions and instructions so changes to course schedule and content might take place.
