This page contains the information about weekly homework exercises. The solutions of the homework problems are presented in exercise sessions on Fridays. Zoom link and password for exercise sessions is visible for registered students at the bottom of this page.
It is important to note that everyone should solve the tasks and write the solutions by themselves. Publishing your own solutions or copying solutions from others is strictly prohibited. However, we encourage you to discuss the problems and solutions also with other students if you need advice.
There are 12 exercise rounds in total. In order to pass the course, it is required that you get non-zero points from at least 8 rounds (i.e. you should solve at least one exercise task from 8 different weekly rounds) and pass the exam. However, it is recommended that you do more than the minimum. Exercises are a good way to learn and the extra points will be taken into account in grading. Each exercise task is worth of a one point (but partial points may be rewarded to partial solutions). Note that the amount of work and total number of points varies a bit between weekly rounds. However, the exercises will be published early so that you can do them also in advance if some weeks are busier than others.
The bookkeeping of given points can be found from MyCourses as the course proceeds. For final grading, the exam points and weighted exercise points will be added together. The grading will be based on this total point count. That is, the homework points are multiplied with weight 0.5 and exam points with weight 1.0 and added together, the maximum number of points rewarded from homeworks is thus 0.5*34 and from exam it is 42.The exercise problems should be solved and solutions returned via this MyCourses page before the corresponding exercise session. The deadline of each round is at noon on Fridays. The solutions will be presented on Fridays at 12:15-14:00 via Zoom. Recordings of the sessions are made available afterwards. The exercises contain both pen and paper problems and programming tasks. You can return also handwritten solutions if they are scanned to PDF format and clear to read.
The programming assignments will be available in Matlab and Python. That is, the students can freely choose which programming language they want to use. The tasks are similar in both versions. The first two exercise rounds contain only pen and paper problems (see below). The assignments for the Matlab version will appear below and Python version can be found from github:
