The learning process in this course will be facilitated by different activities:

    1. Lessons on MyCourses: Three topical Lessons to get familiar with the topic and theoretical frame. Done individually, this is a graded item, up to 3 course points.
    2. Two lectures : Two lectures about the methods and theory in connection with lab work. Highly recommended to get a good start for your lab work. Tue Oct. 25 in Ke2/A304 (CHEM, Kemistintie 1); Thu Oct. 27 in Aluminium - C100 (Circular Raw Materials Hub, Vuorimiehentie 2).
    3. *Lab case studies (5) in CHEM teaching lab and MyCourses assignments: Graded MyCourses assignments related to the lab cases, both before and after the lab. These assignments are worth up to 15 course points in total.
    4. *Lab journal is for documenting your lab work, graded up to 15 course points.
    5. Café Data is for discussions and to help in processing lab data into results. Attendance is graded up to 2 course points.
    6. *Lab report: The Case 5 lab is summarized into a lab report. This is a graded item, up to 13 course points. Pass threshold for report 5 course points.
    7. Calculation exercise on MyCourses: One exercise on chemical problems, mainly calculations. The solutions are submitted individually online, this is a graded item, up to 2 course points.
Mandatory (*): Pre- and post-lab assignments, doing the lab cases in the lab, lab journal, and lab report.

Course assessment (1-5) is based on maximum of 50 course points.

    ≥45.00 points   5
    40.00-44.99      4
    35.00-39.99      3
    30.00-34.99      2
    20.00-29.99      1
    <20.00              F

Threshold to pass the course is 20 course points. Lab report pass threshold 5 course points.

Course e-book: Chemistry: A Molecular Approach by Nivaldo J. Tro. If you don’t have the passcode to access the e-book from CHEM-C1220, you can use the e-book available through Aalto University library (sign-in required): https://ebookcentral.proquest.com/lib/aalto-ebooks/reader.action?docID=5185960&ppg=1

Use the vitalsource platform if you have the code from this year's CHEM-C1220 as there is only five licenses thorough proquest!
