    Targets of the group work
    1. To learn about some new pedagogical topic yourselves and to utilize that knowledge (or materials) later on in your own teaching, when usually you would not have so much time to get acquainted with teaching methods/pedagogical concepts. Take advantage of this time in the course!
    2. To offer your peers new learning experiences on a topic they would not know so much/ OR with your material wake up their interest to use something new in their own teaching.
    3. To activate and teach your peers online, and hopefully in an engaging and exciting way.

    As a result you will end up with two things

    1. The actual teaching material

    Familiarize yourselves with the topic that you have chosen to work with. You are free to precise the topic a lot more and choose a perspective that you are interested in. 

    Then plan and produce a teaching material online that teaches something that you have learned and found especially useful to the other participants in this course. The material can be a video, a podcast, an infographic, a comic strip, a web site, a game, a challenge, an assignment - your radically creative minds (and time resources available) set the boundaries!

    2. A video (max 5 min) where you summarise... 

    a) your working. How did you end up with that topic, how was it to work together, what worked well and what didn´t... 

    b) the key learning in your material. What should we learn from it?

    You can freely choose how you make the video: Panopto is obviously the recommended tool for sharing the video in Aalto, but feel free to use Teams, Zoom, mobile phones etc. for recording and editing.

    DL: 27.10.2023. You will hand in your peer group work in week 43 so that you´ll have time to look at and comment on other groups´ works before the course end. Plan accordingly.

    PLEASE NOTE

    • The topics are quite large - you as a group decide & can make your topic more narrow (based on your group's mutual decision).
    • You should in some form include a list of references into your presentation = a list of those articles/books/internet links etc., which you used when preparing this.
    • Afterwards, the list is a good help for you and all of your peers in the course when you have some time to go back to these topics (e.g. when renewing your own course's methods).

    • Team agreement (started at the first Zoom session on 14.9.2023)
      The first task is to fill the team agreement together, which will be done (or started, template below) during a contact session. The agreement is about the purpose of the team, principles of cooperation, and making a concrete plan. You have to:
      • Invent a name for your group
      • Agree about main principles of communication, interaction, decision making and appreciation in your group. You can also share your experiences, discuss about your strengths and how can you make the most of you working together. Make necessary additions to the agreement template.
      • Make a concrete plan for your meetings: possible dates and places on campus/online. Agree at least the next meeting time!
      You can precise the agreement during the course, if necessary. Save the team agreement into your group's Wiki (below).

    • After you are ready with the agreement, you can start discussing the actual group work: generate ideas and try to find a common ground for your preliminary topic. 

      Instructions for group meetings

      Before the first group meeting:
      Reflect individually on the role you usually take in a group that has a goal: What kind of experiences do you have of working in a group? What are your strengths and weaknesses in group work? What kind of responsibilities do you usually take and why? What is necessary for successful group work?

      In the first group meeting
      • Discuss and decide together how to gain your targets. You can define your targets, share the work and tasks. Plan in which form you would like to present your work - what is the actual result of your group work?
      • Agree the second (next) meeting time
      • Add your meeting notes to the wiki
      • Always end your meetings with "next steps" and clear responsibilities for everyone.
      In the second group meeting
      • Discussion on the issues you have found, new viewpoints, and new ideas. Combine your thoughts and define the topic even more if needed
      • Necessary preparations for the material on your topic
      • Add your meeting notes to the wiki
      Other meetings
      • Your group decides how often you meet and how you work. Write notes about all your meetings in your group's wiki.
      • In course workload, ~32h is reserved for this peer-group assignment. Define the scope of your work accordingly.
