The aim of the learning log is to practice an inquiry-based and research and developmental-minded approach to teaching and to develop pedagogical self-assessment through reflection, which is a key tool for enhancing teaching and teachership development.
In the learning log, you return to the themes, tasks, materials, discussions, thoughts, and observations of the sessions from the perspective of your learning. In the learning log, you assess and compare your learning and its progress to the learning objectives of the course as well as the learning objectives you have set for yourself.
Reflection gives you the opportunity to develop your pedagogical thinking, which is visible in the pedagogical decision-making in your teaching practices.
The learning logs are firstly for yourself and for your learning. For the course facilitators, they are also a view the learning process of their course participants. The learning logs are a part of the completion of the course. In this course, the course facilitators provide group feedback on the learning logs in the sessions.
The following questions can help you to start:
• What were your thoughts after the teaching session?
• What supported your learning in the teaching session?
• What kind of thoughts and ideas arouse to you concerning the themes presented?
• How can you apply these ideas to your own teaching?
• Where would you like to focus on in the future? etc.
The length of the learning log is appx. 0,5–1 A4 page.
The logs are visible only for the teachers.
