Learning Outcomes At this course the students learn user interface and interaction design. After completing the course, students are able to develop an interactive user interface that can be used as a prototype or an application for usability testing. Students know how to use user-centred principles, guidelines and patterns in the design and implementation of user interfaces.
Content The design and construction of interactive user interfaces. Use of basic user interface elements and style guides.
Assessment Methods and Criteria Lectures and examination, exercises.
Study Material In order to improve access to learning material during Covid-19 restrictions, you may user either the book by Shneiderman (available from Aalto's library) or the book by Galitz (available online via Aalto's library access). In your assigments (and in the exam), refer clearly to the material that you have used as reference material. Additionally, in the exam you can indicate which of the books you have been using.

Prerequisites CS-C3120 Human-computer Interaction / CSE-C3800 User Interfaces and Usability or equivalent basics in user-centred design and usability.
Grading Scale 0-5
Passing the course requires the completion of all assignments and the exam. Assignments 1 and 2 are evaluated with "passed/failed" (you must pass). Assignment 3 is done individually (evaluated with normal scale 0-5, weight 20% of the final grade) and assignment 4 in a group (evaluated with normal scale 0-5, weight 40% of the final grade). The exam will be evaluated with normal scale 0-5 (weight 40% of the final grade).
