The exam will take place in the EXAM studio on Aalto campus. You need to reserve a time 1-2 weeks in advance (not earlier). The time slots are only visible two weeks ahead.  It is usually possible to cancel and rebook.

The exam duration is about two hours. There are five randomized problems of equal weight. At least one will be on security terminology (hint: see the Key Concepts slides for each lecture) and at least one on PKI and TLS. There  is a mock exam under Materials that demonstrates the style of the examination questions.

Note that the exam takes only 1 hour 55 minutes, in comparison to the usual 3 hours, and some of that time may go to learning the EXAM software. Thus, plan your use of time carefully and avoid getting stuck on one question. The complexity of the questions has been reduced compared to previous 3-hour examinations.

The available software includes Word, Excel, Calculator, and Paint. If your answer is only text, please answer in the embedded textbox in the exam. When you need to draw figures, it is easiest to write the answer and draw vector graphics in Word (Insert / Shapes / New Drawing Canvas). Attach the Word file as your answer to the question. Please include the answer text only in one place: either the textbox or the attached file. For numerical calculations, use Windows Calculator (select View / Scientific to get the necessary functions) or Excel. The person marking the exam will not do the numerical calculations for you. 

No mobile phones, backpacks, equipment, reading material, or even blank paper is allowed in the examination room. There are storage lockers outside. No questions, speaking or technical support is allowed during the examination. If you think there is something wrong with a questions, explain the issue in your answer. If the computer is not working, leave the room, report to EXAM administration, email the course email alias about a new time. 

No taking notes or photographs of the questions or answers. Very serious measures will be taken against anyone who copies the questions or leaks them online. 

Please wear a disposable paper mask. If you forget to bring one, masks can be requested from the receptionist near Otakaari 1 main entrance. While reusable masks are better for the environment and usually preferred, a paper mask will make breathing easier in a stressful situations like the examination. There are disinfectant wipes provided in some of the examination rooms for cleaning the mouse and keyboard before you log into the computer. To be safe, you can bring your own disposable alcohol wipes to the exam and use them before logging in. 

Those who are unable to travel to the campus due to Covid-19 will have an opportunity to take the exam when they again can do so.  Contact the course email alias when you are ready to take the examination.
