There are three kinds of student assignments or exams:

  1. Homework
  2. STACK -- automated, randomised problems
  3. Exam

Once we get the tutorials going the weighting of the different types will be made clearer. In continuous assessment, the course exam is roughly 40% of the total weight.

There will be eleven problem sheets, 12 STACK sessions, and the course exam. Every homework problem is 2 pts, so that the grand total is 44 pts. Each STACK session gives one bonus point. The course exam will have five problems, 6 pts each, for a grand total of 30 pts. So, the maximum number of points is 44+30=74. For grade 5 it is guaranteed that 66.6 pts is sufficient (that is, 90%). Historically, the threshold for grade 5 has been lower than 90% For instance, if there is an impossibly difficult problem in the exam, it will be taken into account in the final assessment.

Please notice, that the course exam and the regular exam are not the same thing. The course exam is part of the continuous assessment, whereas the regular exam explicitly assumes that learning over the whole course covering all topics at all levels of detail should be assessed.
