Engineering and Design have foundationally different values, which are reflected in how the respective education as well as the professional practices are organised. It is challenging to develop adaptable didactics that serve both viewpoints and perspectives. This paper identifies 7 major tensions between engineering and design, which stem from the core values of the respective disciplines.

Submit your individual short essay on "Tensions in-between Design and Engineering" online (in English) until 30.04.2019 03.05.2019, 18.00 as follows:
- Engineering as a problem-solving practice while design works by framing problems, which are worthwhile and possible to be solved.
- Engineering practice considers a good result to be one that meets the requirements, whereas design practice sees a good result in terms of how desirable people find it.

What YOU are supposed to do / submit:

Your opinion must be argued on the basis of your own experiences as well as on at least 2 in-text cited scientific references (provide correct bibliography, which is prerequisite for acceptance).
