A learning diary is a method to reflect on your own learnings INDIVIDUALLY. It gives you the space to bring together what you have read, what you have heard and what you have seen during this course. This is not an essay, but rather it is about communicating your own personal reflections. The format is more informal than an essay and it demonstrates analytical thinking in the given topic.

Based on the Learning Diary I, these are some tips that could help you:
- Before you start writing: 1.Organise your thoughts: you could create a mind-map and identify themes, 2. Choose what you wish to focus on, narrow your focus, 3. Self-reflection: Analyse further the key topics you want to address, 4. Define a structure, the order in the text, using titles can be easier, 5. Write the text, review and spell check!
- We do not ask you to describe the whole process, nor each and every course activity. Rather, start with the given topic and use the project work, notions discussed during the course and activities as a basis for you to reflect, and stay on the topic.
- What point do you want to make? It is best to focus on one thing and dig deeper than surface many topics.
- Using subtitles can be a good trick to crystallise your thoughts by putting a name on your ideas, and also to organise your text in a more cohesive way.
- Well-elaborated reflections present a personal point of view that is well argued and justified (It shows that the author has thought about it carefully and that is able to present a result of their thought process). Not elaborated reflections present descriptions with broad personal reflections, which lack a clear point of view (the author presents their thinking process “in progress”, so they write whilst thinking)
- Over 200 words length has penalty, and in general it is a sign of a lack of synthesis. General information on the project details (brief, your target group, process) are not necessary. We know all about it, don’t worry!
