1. Get oriented

2. Start the collaboration officially

  • Apply for supervisor, topic, and advisor approval in MyStudies
  • After your supervisor has been approved, you will receive an email notification about the approval, and Learning Services conducts an administrative check. After the check is done, you will receive information about the thesis presentation, maturity demonstration, thesis abstract, and course code.

3. Work on thesis

4. Finalize & submit thesis for evaluation

  • When you have done the thesis abstract and thesis presentation, finalized your thesis, and discussed the submission with the supervisor, submit the thesis for evaluation in MyStudies.

5. After submitting the thesis

  • If you have completed all other studies except the thesis, you can apply for graduation in Sisu with the same deadline as you submitted your thesis.
  • LES conducts an administrative check on your thesis.
  • Your supervisor will then evaluate and grade the thesis. Learning Services prepares the theses and evaluation statements for decision-making for Degree Programme Committees (DPC).
  • DPC evaluates and approves the master's theses. Please check the DPC meeting times here.
  • Following the DPC meeting, the final grade will be marked on MyStudies and theses will be registered in Sisu. You can view the final grade from Sisu ja MyStudies and download the evaluation statement from MyStudies. Additionally, you will receive an email to your aalto.fi email address containing the final grade, statement, and instructions on how to appeal the thesis grade decision. Your thesis will be archived in AaltoDoc.
  • Approximately 1-2 weeks after the DPC meeting: If you requested graduation at the same time you submitted your thesis, the Dean awards the degrees, and the graduation request/degree will be registered in Sisu.
  • After your thesis has been approved and your degree is registered in Sisu, you will receive an e-mail with information about graduation and receiving your degree certificate, a link to the TEK Graduate Survey, and an invitation to participate in the Graduation Party.
